Having the same members of Board of Trustees from two sponsoring Protestant churches, (UMC and UCCP), the Philippine Christian College (PChC) in Manila and the Union Theological Seminary (UTS ) in Dasmariñas has been united into one under the umbrella of the created Philippine Christian Center of Learning, Inc. The Board of Trustees acted on the proposal for the two institutions (PChC/UTS) to have a joint understanding of PChC to offer its academic programs in the campus of UTS in Cavite.
In 1971, this joint undertaking came into realization when Dr. Lino Q. Arquiza, President of PChC, pursue the agreement to branch out and offer academic courses in Dasmariñas campus and Dr. Emerito P. Nacpil, President of UTS, was designated as the Officer-In-Charge of PCU Dasmariñas Campus. To start with, the administration decided to offer the two programs of elementary and college education. This has coincide with the wishes of parents in the UTS campus and nearby places like IIRR, Palapala and Silang to be able to send their children to an exclusive school. SY 1971 – 1972, the elementary program, started in a multi – graded set-up thru the help of Miss Amelia Agustin, the Officer-In-Charge for elementary school carrying the name of Union Elementary School (UES). Temporarily pupils were housed in the “Sambahan Sa Nayon” chapel until such time that the first elementary school building has been completed and inaugurated in November 1971.
Enrollment gradually increased, hence the need to employ more teachers the following years. By school year 1972-1973, Miss Agustin was succeeded by Ms. Aida Latonero in taking charge of the elementary school department. During school years 1973 – 1975, Mrs. Luzonia Agulto, Assistant Principal of the Union Elementary School – Manila, was requested to transfer to Dasmariñas campus to take charge of the elementary program.
From 1975 to 1986, Mrs. Editha Gamboa assumed the supervision of the two programs – the early childhood and the elementary school department. With the increase of enrollment, PCU offer all levels of academic courses and was able to gain its university status in 1977 and has been known as Philippine Christian University with the approval from the Department of Education, Culture and Sports (DECS) for both the Manila and Dasmariñas campuses to operate under one permit.
When Mrs. Gamboa left her post in 1986, the whole program for basic education was eventually fused and known as Dasmariñas Integrated School ( DIS ). Mrs. Rosario Raterta served as its Supervising Principal from 1986 to 1991. Miss Calipay (Leng) Lubang was then assigned as the Department Head for Elementary School from 1991 to 1995.
Upon resignation of Mrs. Raterta in 1992, Dr. Carlito Garcia assumed the directorship till 1996, the period when he initiated to offer special science program for our basic education program. This, again has changed our school name into Dasmariñas Integrated Science School (DISS) in 1995, the time when Miss Leng Lubang has to resign for further studies abroad and Mrs. Teresita C. Enano was given the assignment as the new Department Head for Elementary School from 1995 to 2000.
New building was constructed for the Elementary Department at the back of the old High School building. In 1996, Dr. Garcia was promoted to a new post to handle the Administration office and dean of Colleges of the Dasmariñas campus. Eventually, Mrs. Eunice Mercado took over as the Officer-In-Charge until such time when Rev. Benoni Hernandez was transferred from Manila to Dasmariñas campus to assume the directorship for DISS.
School year 2000 – 2001 the new administration struggled for reform in all levels and departments of the University. Rev. Benoni Hernandez was replaced by Mrs. Julieta N. Griego for a year with the help of Mr. Bayani Barzaga, appointed as the Department Head for Elementary School. All on-going programs of the former DISS were pursued under the new management and supervision. The following school year, 2001 – 2002, the formerly known ISS (composed of Kiddie Kollege, Elementary and High School, under the supervision of a director) was disintegrated into two units with two designated principals. Each unit is identified by its own name. The Elementary School Department was headed by Mrs. Noemi D. Terrado acting principal for Kiddie / Elementary Department.
Due to the construction problem of the two – storey building of the Elementary, it has been imperative for the Elementary School to temporarily vacate the building and transfer to the refectory adjacent to the UTS dormitories. Upon resignation of Mrs. Terrado, Mrs. Marites D. Mercado assumed the position as Acting Principal to handle both Kiddie Kollege and the Elementary School Department from SY 2002-2009 and became full pledged principal SY 2009 – 2010 to SY 2013 – 2014.
It was during Mrs. Mercado’s term that the Dasmariñas campus has applied for accreditation program with ACSCU – AAI and was able to pass the criteria during their preliminary visit in February 2004. Eventually, after completion of reinforcement of the two storey building, the Elementary Department moved back to its former school building. In February, 2006 the first formal survey was held and the Elementary School was granted with Level II – three year accreditation status effective April, 2006 up to April, 2009. In September 2009, the department has undergone resurvey and was able to maintain its accreditation status in Level II – three years effective SY 2009 – 2010 to SY 2011- 2012. From 2012 to 2014, the department continuously enjoying the Level II – three years of accreditation status. SY 2013 – 2014, the department prepares a lot of documents necessary for application to ISO Certification (International Standard Organization).
School Year 2014-2015 marked a great transition when the Elementary and High School Departments were assigned to one principal in the person of Prof. Raquel Violeta D. Rosano.
For School Year 2015 up to present, the two departments were separated again each having a principal, Dr. Lenalee C. Borromeo, former Elementary faculty was appointed as principal of Elementary School Department, her commendable performance and academic accomplishment qualified as 7th principal of the PCU-ESD . It was during her time when the department had the PCU-ESD Song she composed herself, gala uniform for chapel service was implemented and 40” LED TV sets were installed in all classrooms with the help of Parents Teachers Association.
