Myiesha Uy: PCU’s Pride

Taekwondo jin Myiesha Marie Jerriana Uy of Grade VI-Judges of the Philippine Christian University –Elementary School Department (PCU-ESD) last Feb. 13 bagged the gold medal in her event in the Poomsae Competition of the Calabarzon Heroes Games. The sports event was held in Sta. Rosa Sports Complex in Sta. Rosa, Laguna.

As the champion of Region IV-A, Myiesha will automatically represent the region in the coming Palarong Pambansa in Davao City.

Myiesha started training in taekwondo when she was in Grade 3. Since then, she has not stopped polishing her martial arts skills. Myiesha has already reached the level of being a Second Dan Black Belter.

She had competed in different local and international contests, particularly in Singapore and Malaysia, bringing home medals of recognition. Last year, she became the youngest representative of Region IV-A Calabarzon in Poomsae Competition.

After winning the divisional and regional competitions (and even the Batang Pinoy contest), she said she is ready to conquer the Palarong Pambansa, which will start on April 27 and will end on May 4, 2019.

Today, Myiesha continues to hone her skills together with other Taekwondo players of Rizal Province.

Dr. Lenalee Borromeo, ESD principal, admitted that the whole department is proud of the achievement of Myiesha.

Enduring the Summer Heat

Members of the Computer Science Society (CSS) brave the heat to prepare for the upcoming cheerdance competition, one of the much-anticipated events of the annual College Intramurals of the Philippine Christian University-Dasmariñas Campus (PCU-D). Various academic organizations of PCU-D College Department are busy preparing for the cheerdance competition, which will happen on April 22, 2019. Juan Diether Angelo B. Bautista, acting editor-in-chief of college student publication, Christian Chronicle, has a message of encouragement to competitors, as well as spectators: “Motivate, Validate, Participate!”

Annual Sports Fest

Two Grade III pupils along with members of the Drum and Lyre Corps await the start of the parade that marked the kick-off of Intramurals ’19 last Mar. 18.  The intramurals of the Elementary School Department (ESD) is held annually to give the opportunity for its pupils to display their skills in various indoor and outdoor games. “This is one of the most awaited events in the department,” said Mrs. Maricar Ramos, ESD’s sports coordinator. “The whole campus comes alive during this week.”

PCU-ESD holds intramurals ’19

As part of its yearly event, the Philippine Christian University – Elementary School Department (PCU-ESD) celebrated the Sports Festival ’19 at the University’s Dasmariñas campus on Mar. 18-25, 2019.

Bannering the theme, “Chosen to Serve God through Sport,” the most awaited event of the year started with a parade featuring the Drum and Lyre Corps. The pupils and teachers showed up in their sports uniforms.

After the flag ceremony, Elementary School Department (ESD) principal Dr. Lenalee C. Borromeo greeted the pupils and reminded them to practice honesty and sportsmanship in all their games. Prof. Jordan Ramos, administrative officer of PCU Dasmariñas Campus, reiterated to the pupils and their parents that they need to be careful at all times and always enjoy the games. Pastor Janice Serafica, the University chaplain, prayed to ask God to bless all the pupils as they play and to always keep them safe. To add excitement, the Drum and Lyre Corps led by Sir Nixon Nobleza had their opening presentation. Soccer ace player Carlos Leland Toledo of VI-Philippians carried the torch, as the pack of athletes followed him.

The oath of sportsmanship was read by taekwondo player Fiona Papa of V- Chronicles. Then, each team was introduced by Mrs. Dorie Corpuz. The games started in the afternoon. The Grade 6 pupils, both boys, and girls, played basketball inside the new gymnasium. Grade 5 boys and girls had their volleyball games at the covered court while the Grade 4 pupils had their badminton at the multipurpose hall.

The children also engaged in indoor games like chess, dama, Chinese checker, “sungka,” scrabble and word factory. Other games and the championship games will happen on the remaining days of the sports fest.

PCU-Dasma’s Senior High Intrams kick off

The Senior High School (SHS) Intramurals 2019 officially started last March 25 with an opening ceremony officiated by Sports and Athletics coordinator Juanito B. Belandres held at the campus gymnasium of the Philippine Christian University (PCU) in Dasmariñas.

Before officially announcing the opening of the games, Mr. Belandres reminded the participating students to keep this year’s games fun, fair, and safe. Players from the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), Accountancy, Business and Management (ABM), Humanities and Social Sciences (HUMSS) strands, and Technical-Vocational-Livelihood (TVL) track were among those seeking to snatch the top medals.

Starting at 8 a.m. on the opening day, the competitors gathered at the university’s covered court for a parade. They strutted around the campus before they marched back to the gymnasium for the opening protocols. Once the players, coaches, and members of the audience settled, a prayer was recited followed by the singing of the national anthem by a choir.

Dr. Mario S. Mecate, SHS principal, and Mr. Jordan B. Ramos, Administrative Officer of Security, Personnel, General Services and Finance, greeted the PCU-D community and encouraged the competitors to play hard yet in a sportsmanlike manner. Varsity player Venedict Romalacio lighted the symbolic torch, which signifies the virtues in sports. This was followed by the recitation of the Oath of Sportsmanship.
